Julie Solorio began her time at Lighthouse as a Direct Support Professional (DSP) in the Pre-Vocational Training program.  There she provided support to a group of six individuals as they collated fire safety kits, folded corner protectors, and assembled school kits for homeschooling families. She enjoyed working with the participants.

Her joy of working with the participants in this program has carried over to her current role as the Production Coordinator. In this role, Julie is the friendly voice on the phone greeting vendors who contract with Lighthouse.  She also manages logistics which includes pick up and drop off of materials from local businesses.  Julie provides customized support for each business partner and communicates the unique needs of each business to the Direct Support Professional team members.  Before the work leaves Lighthouse, she ensures every detail of the finished product is executed with the highest quality.

Julie stated, “When I bring new product in, I see [the participants’] faces and they’re so happy…”  While the program currently completes many collating and packaging jobs, participants in the Pre-Vocational Training program also fold fabric and pads, assemble corner protectors, and screw together gravesite markers for veterans, just to name a few. Each new type of job offers an opportunity for participants to develop their job skills and provides purpose for their day, all while meeting the needs of local businesses.

When she is not at Lighthouse, Julie enjoys cooking for her family including her five grandchildren, shopping, and spending time with her family.

Julie is always looking for new partners for Lighthouse. If you would like more information about how we can support your business operations through our Pre-Vocational Training program, contact [email protected] or call 717-354-0355.

With a bright smile, he greets a co-worker with a fist bump and then sweeps a clump of sawdust into a pile.  His co-worker remarks about Jimmy, “He’s really friendly.”
