In March of 2021, Amy Horne joined Lighthouse as a Program Specialist bringing years of experience working with people with disabilities and a playful sense of humor.

When she started, she had a caseload of 18 individuals in the Prevocational (work training) Program. There she customized goals for participants, connected with their parents and supervised two direct care staff.

From the beginning, Amy did not shy away from challenges:  She studied hard for her medical administrator trainer, and she sought out the individuals who sometimes struggled.  One of her greatest joys was looking beyond the cover and seeing someone’s potential.

In October of 2022, this love for challenges led to her promotion as the Senior Program Specialist for the Pre-Vocational Program. There she oversaw all the Program Specialists —meeting with them and carefully reviewing notes and files for compliance.

After a couple of years, Amy craved another challenge.

In December 2024, Amy became the Program Coordinator, now overseeing both site-based Programs, Pre-Vocational and Strengthening Pathways. She sets the standard for quality programs. She accomplishes this by leading internal teams, one-to-one meetings and by being an immediate resource person for managers.  When Amy has an opportunity to give a tour to prospective participants and their families, she’s
‘all smiles’.

When asked about her favorite part of her job, she says: “I just love interacting (with the participants). I learn so much from them. They have a lot of joy. They live for the moment, and I love them.”

In her role, Amy enjoys the opportunity of creating a quality program.  Her goal is this: “Participants are enjoying themselves. I want them to want to come to Lighthouse.”

Outside of her job, Amy enjoys reading and going to the beach.  She lives with her husband and her three cats (two of them are tortoiseshells).  Some of the things she looks forward to is finishing her Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy and taking a cruise in the Caribbean in 2026.

We’re so thankful for Amy’s love for people, her frank humor, her easy-going demeanor and her ability to see past the cover to the potential in
the individual.
