Job Description
As a Direct Support Professional, you will monitor, provide guidance and supervision for one participant in our Strengthening Pathways educational program–which consists of daily living and enrichment activities that include music, art, reading, cooking, and exercise. This position is designated as safety sensitive. A safety sensitive position is one in which a momentary lapse of attention or judgment could result in a direct threat to the health or safety of the employee, coworkers, participants, company property, or the general public. As such, this position is subject to pre-employment, rando, and post incident drug and alcohol testing compliance with applicable laws and company policy.
Hours: Mon–Fri: 7:30am–4:00pm
A successful candidate will provide assistance to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, helping them achieve greater independence and enhance their quality of life through 1:1 assistance tailored to their specific needs.
Pay Rate: $16.50-18.50 with $500.00 sign on bonus, Ask about generous benefit package. 1:1 coverage does involve a $2.00/hr incentive
Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED with one year of experience in human services preferred
- Pass pre-employment physical and PA State Police Background Check
- Basic computer skills for daily documentation/email
- Caring, compassionate and patient with a desire to help others
- Complete CPS training within thirty days of hire
- Strong communication skills
- Able to maintain confidentiality and respect privacy
Tasks & Responsibilities
- Provide one on one support through personalized assistance to individuals with disabilities base on their specific needs, abilities, and goals.
- Facilitate group activities and individual tasks while promoting socialization, teamwork, and independence
- Monitor progress and provide consistent feedback to individuals, adjusting training methods as necessary
- Ensure the safety and security of all participants at all times
- Assist, instruct, and monitor participant’s involvement in daily enrichment activities to promote skill development according to their individualized goals.
- Must provide support and assistance for toileting needs
- Physical demands may include assisting Individuals with mobility, lifting, and managing behavioral support needs
- Monitor participants’ quality of work and provide instruction and corrective action as necessary
- Encourage and assist participants’ involvement in daily enrichment activities to promote skill development according to their individualized goals
- Maintain healthy and safe work environment
- Complete daily documentation of progress and goals in a timely manner in SetWorks
- Have quarterly meetings with supervisor for performance review/goal setting implementation/coaching
- Complete annual required online trainings on Relias training platform
- Attend in-person professional development/team building trainings
- Supports the mission and vision of Lighthouse Vocational Services
Physical Requirements
- Able to lift and assist individuals as needed
- Able to lift up to fifty pounds
- Able to participate in physical activities with Participants.
- Able to remain calm and focused in emergency and challenging situations
- Able to push and pull up to 35 pounds
- Able to stand or sit for periods of time
- Able to bend, twist, reach, squat
- Able to move quickly in emergency situations
- Possesses Good vision and hearing to monitor participants, observe behavioral clues, and ensure safe environment
- Tolerance to high stress environment or emotionally charged situations
- Able to work with body fluids and challenging behaviors
